Hiring a remodeling contractor in El Dorado Hills
In California, remodels of $1,000 or more need a licensed contractor, usually a B General Building license from the CSLB, and most remodels need permits. You can look up a contractor's license at cslb.ca.gov.
Questions to ask
- Get a written contract with a payment schedule tied to finished work. In California the down payment can't exceed 10% or $1,000, whichever is less.
- Ask who pulls the permits and who handles inspections.
- Ask about the timeline and how change orders are priced.
- For an ADU, ask about your city's ADU rules and fees early.
