Before you hire

  • Don't adjust springs or cables yourself; they're under high tension.
  • If the door is off its track, stop using it until it's checked.
  • Ask whether springs are replaced in pairs and how long they're rated for.

In California, garage door work of $1,000 or more needs a contractor's license from the CSLB (Doors, Gates and Activating Devices, D-28).

Garage Door Companies in Palo Alto: questions

How do I find a good garage door company in Palo Alto?

Tell SVHN what you need in about two minutes, with a few photos. A person at SVHN reads your request and sends it to one local garage door company who does that work in Palo Alto. You can follow every step on your tracking page, and we check in after the job.

Does a garage door company need a license?

In California, garage door work of $1,000 or more needs a contractor's license from the CSLB (Doors, Gates and Activating Devices, D-28). You can look up any license number at cslb.ca.gov.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the job: repair vs. new door, single or double door, door material and insulation, opener features. Because the pro sees your answers and photos before calling, the first conversation can get to a real estimate faster. You agree the price directly with the pro.

Is SVHN free for homeowners?

Yes. Requesting a pro through SVHN costs you nothing, and we send your request to one pro at a time, not to a crowd. Your contact details go only to the pro who accepts your job.
